Basketball legend Jerry West passed away today at the age of 86. Following is a statement on behalf of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association:
Jerry West became one of the earliest two-time All-Americans in the history of he U.S. Basketball Writers Association when he was selected in 1959 and 1960 at West Virginia University. For more than six decades, throughout a career in which he became one of the most influential executives in the history of sports in America, West was always available and willing to discuss subjects that others would not. His wisdom taught generations of reporters about the business of basketball and how it works. The USBWA sends its condolences to his family, friends and everyone who has benefited from his kindness.
